The project P.R.I.M.E., co-financed by the European Community and the Community Initiative Programme Life + (LIFE09 ENV / IT/000061), was realized by the Municipality of Mola di Bari (lead partner), by ECO-logica SRL, by the Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA-CNR), by Aseco SPA and Tecoma Drying Technology SRL as associated beneficiaries from September 2010 till December 2013, with the aim of establishing an integrated management system of stranded posidonia residues. Direct analyses on the aspects related to the stranding of vegetable biomasses have been carried out in order to consider both the ecological aspect concerning the state of health of the meadows, the dynamics of the stranding and their ecological importance for the shoreline and the management aspect relating to the collection, handling and pretreatment of stranded posidonia residues aimed at their recovery and reuse in the production cycle. In particular, the project P.R.I.M.E. has enabled to identify some methods of recovery of stranded posidonia residues and some methods of use of organic material to produce compost as soil amender for agricultural soils and/or as a cultivation substrate for both horticulture and floriculture.
